When you smoke cigarettes all of the time, each time you light one up, you are bringing yourself closer and closer to your final reward. This is not a reward in the good sense of the word because there are no good rewards from smoking cigarettes. The best that you can hope for is to die without having to suffer from the serious consequences that so many do, but for the most part this will just be wishful thinking. The end result of smoking cigarettes for years is usually thought of as cancer. This can be true, but there are many other complications that might come along that you may very well have to deal with before the situation gets that bad. These can start out as little things that can also be experienced by those that do not smoke. The thing is that if you did not smoke, you might not have ever developed any of these things. Sinus infections, allergies, bronchitis, shortness of breath, being more susceptible to pneumonia, and even a common cold can be issues that you have to deal with more often than others that never smoke. You can still be more susceptible to these things even years after you have stopped smoking. However, the risk of developing these complications can be reduced when you do stop smoking, but it will not always eliminate them. Having surgery or other health related medical procedures can be complicated when you smoke or have smoked in the past. Recovery time can be lengthened by a little or a lot depending on the procedure, the person, and how long they smoked. No one wants to have to stay in a hospital and have more things done than necessary, but there are often breathing and oxygen related issues to contend with if a patient smokes or has smoked a lot in the pats years of their life. Breathing treatments are not that uncommon while a body is trying to heal, but when you are dealing with a smoker they can become necessary. They can be weaker and heal more slowly than a non-smoker would. Of course, a hospital stay and medical procedures are only part of what you have to endure when you smoke cigarettes. You will always have that cigarettes odor about you after a cigarette. You can have damage to your teeth and gum. You could develop a raspy voice, along with an annoying cough and draining sinuses. You can even have fewer friends than you could have when you are a smoker. You will do physical harm to those around you when you smoke near them. All of the rewards you get from smoking are those that no one would ever want, so why do you do it really, when you know there will be nothing good to ever come from it?
