The Root Causes of Gaining Weight

By: Charles Volcolatte

The most common response when being asked of weight gain causes has always been believed to be due to the excessive quantities of calories an individual chooses to consume and the inability to burn them off, hence stored by the body as fats. Although this reasoning is sensible enough there are further causes that is a reality for this issue.

One example is a normal occurrence for women who are pregnant. During this stage water retention or what is commonly referred to as water weight can increase rapidly causing simultaneous weight gain. In such cases medical help should already be sought in order to avoid further complication.

Another aspect that should also be considered is a persons aging experience. As people grows older the rate of metabolism also slows down making it difficult to burn off calories we obtain from our daily food sources. In this light some can opt to reduce the volume and practice portion control and engaging in a regular physical activities or workouts to cope up with this inevitable change.

Consuming time on vices is also a great factor for weight gain. In example is drinking too much alcohol. Health experts state that this type of beverage is a significant source of calories that can stimulate overeating especially when social settings are involved.

There are also some forms of medication or usage of certain drugs that can cause one to gain weight. To name a few are corticosteroids, cyproheptadine, lithium, tranquilizers, phenothiazines, some antidepressants, and also medicines that can cause an increase in fluid retention resulting in edema.

Quitting the habit of smoking is another reason why people gain weight. People who smokes have high nicotine level that enhances the rate of their metabolism hence, quitting would therefore slow it down. Smoking limits the taste and craving for food which is why most people end up eating more after the quit.

The issue on weight gain does not limit its effect on the aesthetic aspect and self-esteem. Health status is the greatest factor that is to be considered when thinking and opting for ways to address this condition. Weight gain can lead to obesity which is tailed with various health complications such as high blood pressure, type II diabetes and heart diseases.

Fortunately there are ways to fight off this condition and it needs to be a part of a lifestyle change. Eating the right kinds of foods such as fruits, vegetables and fiber should be top priority. These food types will enable dieters to prolong a feeling of fullness and may even consume great servings of such because they contain very little amount of calories.

Another thing is to have a very active way if life. Engage in physical activities as much as you can if you would not be able to perform a routine of daily exercise at the gym or at home. Involve in more walking, sports, bicycling or even gardening to get those calories burning.
